Location
The Hotel Galeno enjoys a choice location in the eternal city of
Rome that allows you, the traveller on a shoestring, the absolute
best of both worlds – great value for money and great accessibility
to all of the treasures of this ancient city. Take a look at the
interactive map below. We’re not exactly in the heart of Rome,
more like the lung, or perhaps the sternum. You can walk into the
“centro storico” in less than 20 minutes or take the
metro one stop to Termini. In any case, the “centro storico”
is a bit too large to walk around.
The trendy inner city area of San Lorenzo, just up the road, is
largely undiscovered by tourists thanks to the absence of any major
monuments, churches, basilicas, temples, museums or man-made wonders
of the world (unlike the rest of the city), and provides the stage
for a really diverse and truly cultural experience. It is also one
of the few remaining areas that are populated predominantly by true
Romans (7 generations is the traditional yardstick).
Locally, you can sample the traditional Cucina Romana
- often for a fraction of the price of the same dishes half a mile
across town – such tantalising delicacies as tripe, intestines,
liver, kidneys and bone marrow. The local pubs and cultural associations
provide a lively atmosphere for everyone to enjoy and the fascinating
architecture provides a near-endless canvas for young artists inspired
by politics, football and the polemics of a generation.
